Stage 4: Actual Experiment
Aim of experiment: To find out how bright light and the lack of light affects he growth of mealworms.
Hypothesis: The speed of growth of the mealworms kept in the dark will be greater than those in the bright light.
Materials: 4 mealworms, a container with holes, black cardboard, laser pointer/ handheld torch, food for mealworms in the container
Procedure:

Hypothesis: The speed of growth of the mealworms kept in the dark will be greater than those in the bright light.
Materials: 4 mealworms, a container with holes, black cardboard, laser pointer/ handheld torch, food for mealworms in the container
Procedure:
- Place a cardboard barrier (that is black to ensure no light from the other side passes through) between the 4 mealworms such that 2 are on each side and the container is divided equally.
- Place a handheld torch towards the left side of the container. Label this side A.
- Cover up the right side with black paper on the outside of the container and try your best not to let light in. Label this side B.
- Watch the growth of the mealworms over a period of 5 days or until they turn into a beetle, whichever shorter.
- Record observations.
